EquiShare™ Drives Manufacturer's Results

The Challenge

A multi-plant manufacturer was searching for a program that could focus employees and drive performance improvement in each of their facilities. Although they had been implementing Lean principles, executives felt that focus and performance could improve if the employee question of "What's in it for me?" could be answered.

The Solution

After discussions with corporate and plant managers, all agreed that the EquiShare™ gainsharing method could be the solution. The belief was that Equishare™ could provide a positive approach and tie everything together, encouraging employees to work together on continuous improvement ideas, quality concerns and output opportunities. Upon completion of the readiness assessment, it became clear that the timing was perfect and the ROI could be quick. Through a series of workshops and on-site visits, designs were completed at each of the facilities. Emphasis in the formula would be placed on: 1) improving product output; 2) reducing scrap; 3) reducing quality issues; 4) paying attention to overtime. The method was introduced with monthly training sessions for employees and specialized training for managers in Coaching, Motivating Employees and and Goal Setting. The Results

With over one year of experience in each of the facilities, the EquiShare™ System has exceeded all expectations. The company has seen profits increase and remain at levels that previously were rarely attained. The key measures of performance have improved significantly with output up 15-20% and defects down almost 50%. At the same time, employees have enjoyed monthly bonuses that have far exceeded the standard 2%-3% pay adjustments. In fact, top months have seen bonuses rise to levels of 10% of pay, while driving significant incremental operating profit. The financial and other benefits realized by the company have been dramatic and they are witnessing first-hand the impact that can result come from employees feeling engaged, recognized and rewarded.
